I have long been an admirer of their products and creative applications.

REINVENTION

2019 will be a year for reinventing.

That includes my self, my art, my business and even new relationships.

Stale is a word I dislike and I feel stale.  2018 has been a challenging year for so many people and we all can use a fresh start, a positive attitude, and a creative spark.  That spark can be your cooking, your home, your art, YOUR relationships.

I found some unusual (to me) ways of celebrating the new year...

In Denmark, they save all of their unused dishes and plates until the 31st of December when they affectionately shatter them against the doors of all their friends and family.  (careful!!)

In Spain, the New Year’s tradition for good luck revolves around grapes. If you can manage to stuff 12 grapes in your mouth at midnight you’ve achieved good luck for the next year.  (not all at once I hope!) 

In some South American countries wearing colored underwear will determine your fate for the new year. Red underwear means you’ll find love. Gold means wealth, and white signifies peace.  (How about Hello Kitty?)

In the USA often involves Black Eyed Peas, meant to represent coins or wealth.  (My mother-in-law always opened a can and took one spoonful)

In Scotland, the first person to cross the threshold of a home in the new year should carry a gift for good luck. (I would like a new Kitchen Aide Mixer please)

How many people still put silver change (nickels, dimes, quarters) outside on their windowsills for New Year's Eve?  I was taught that it is a tradition to bring money into the house for the New Year..!!  AND Remember no chicken today or you’ll be scratching for money the rest of the year

Frida Kahlo was born Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderón on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Mexico.

Family and Education

Frida Kahlo’s father, Wilhelm (also called Guillermo), was a German photographer who had immigrated to Mexico where he met and married her mother Matilde. She had two older sisters, Matilde and Adriana, and her younger sister, Cristina, was born the year after Frida.

Around the age of six, Kahlo contracted polio, which caused her to be bedridden for nine months. While she recovered from the illness, she limped when she walked because the disease had damaged her right leg and foot. Her father encouraged her to play soccer, go swimming, and even wrestle — highly unusual moves for a girl at the time — to help aid in her recovery.

In 1929, Frida Kahlo and famed Mexican muralist Diego Rivera married. Kahlo and Rivera first met in 1922 when he went to work on a project at her high school. Kahlo often watched as Rivera created a mural called The Creation in the school’s lecture hall. According to some reports, she told a friend that she would someday have Rivera’s baby.

Kahlo reconnected with Rivera in 1928. He encouraged her artwork, and the two began a relationship. During their early years together, Kahlo often followed Rivera based on where the commissions that Rivera received were. In 1930, they lived in San Francisco, California.

The family home where Frida Kahlo was born and grew up, later referred to as the Blue House or Casa Azul, was opened as a museum in 1958. Located in Coyoacán, Mexico City, the Museo Frida Kahlo houses artifacts from the artist.
